Who Is D?

Close-up of D wearing a tweed jacket with leather patches on the shoulder, a collared shirt, and a colorful knitted sweater, outdoors with trees in the background.

Meet my husband, D. He’s a stylish Canadian fellow from British Columbia who loves fine tailoring, and was, I suspect, born in entirely the wrong century.

His style is understated, and faintly of another age. Picture gentleman explorer meets stylish country gent, with a touch of crusty academic chic scattered in for good measure — chunky corduroy, leather elbow patches, and louche afternoons spent in wood-panelled libraries.

…and me?

How kind of you to enquire.

I’m D’s British wife, who has fallen over one too many pairs of Berlutis. I wear many hats, and answer to many names.

You, my friend, may call me Lucinda — Head of Garment Rehoming, House of D.

The House of D Is A Solution to A Clothing Conundrum.

Daily life at House of D has become challenging.

We’ve reached a clothing crisis point….

Close-up of a woven fabric tweed with a plaid pattern in shades of brown, navy blue, and red.

Covering our 8 year olds ears to avoid my increasingly impassioned remarks on the state of the hallway closet.

There is not the faintest hope of squeezing another thing between the Belstaffs and Barbours.

Tripping over teetering stacks of benchmade shoes in the hallway.

No room for my grubby trainers among the racks of Gaziano & Gerling, Norman Vilalta and Edward Greene.

“Expecting guests?”

“Yes, dinner guests, and unless you can liberate the spare dining chair buried under an avalanche of Canali and Cucinelli overcoats and odd jackets, I’m afriad you’ll be standing, ”

So, I like to think of House of D as a re-homing project for pre-loved classic and timeless menswear. Each piece, worn sparingly and thoughtfully, is now ready for its next chapter.

the kind of hardly worn classic brands that might be on offer…

I can’t say precisely what we’ll re-home, or when, but there’s a strong commitment to slimming down D’s wardrobe, and releasing items on a fairly regular basis.

Here’s a flavour of D’s style:

Suits: Gieves & Hawkes, New & Lingwood, Ede & Ravenscroft, Walker Slater and Stewart Christie | Outdoorsy Country Stuff : House of Bruar, Campbells of Beauly, Cordings | Headwear: Optimo, Lock & Co. | Shirts: Emma Willis, Turnbull & Asser | All The Trimmings: Drakes | Brace Yourself: Albert Thurston | Shoes: Gaziano & Girling, Norman Vilalta, Edward Greene, George Cleverly | Designer Labels: Etro, Brunello Cucinelli, Ralph Lauren, Burberry | Canadian Names: Arc’teryx, Spier & Mackay…

…and wonderfully obscure pieces by makers you’ve probably never heard of. Though if any of the names above mean something to you, I suspect you’ll love those too!
